Painting Fool(s)

Over the high holidays we began to paint the basement room in earnest. And by that I mean, Reha and I went downstairs, painted and painted and painted and didn’t surface until well after dark. This went on for days. Not because the basement and its accompanying rooms are large or anything normal like that. It’s because when we began, Reha and I were mere rank painting amateurs. Poseurs if you will, in the lofty ranks of people who paint stuff like walls and ceilings for a living. But we’ve honed our technique pretty well by now and now we just think it’s a lot more work than you’d think. :-]

So now we have two layers of blue in Carrie’s room and three coats of red in Lucas’ “I’m going to go insane because I made my parents paint the walls red, because I didn’t know any better” room. I think we are done painting Carrie’s room and BooBoo Kitty’s red room will only need one more coat.

I’ll have more photos tomorrow, but here are the rooms after just one coat. The red is especially bad, IMHO. You paint it once, and you think, “Why am I bothering? This is going to look like crap, no matter what I do.”

Red corner detail (my, oh my, it does look like crap):

Reha, painter extraordinaire! (Please note that she is wearing my clothes, even though they fit her like a bushel bag. Wasn’t that nice of her to use my clothes while painting and cleaning up?)

And finally me, after I laid down all the primer. Yes, I’m drinking a nice Diet Coke out of an old canning jar. We don’t stand on ceremony at the Deal Family Compound, you know. Plus, deep down we are “country,” barely have running water, electricity or regular baths.

Holy Crap! Look at all this STUFF down here. It's awesome!

Really, I'm glad you made it down here. Almost no one ever comes down here. I'm like in a freaking dungeon down here. I get lonely. But not you. YOU made it all the way to the end of the page. For this I think I've a little crush on you. I don't know, is "love" to strong a word to use in this situation? Well, if it's not "love," then it's very strong "like." I'm totally in like with you for coming down here. You are awesome. Please love me back! I know, I know, I shouldn't be all needy, it's not attractive at all, but you don't know how it is to be stuck down here. Who scrolls all the way to the end of a page anymore these days? Anyway, thanks for shedding some light down here in the depths. I appreciate it. Shoot me an email and I'll send you a dollar, OK?
